because people will see more comments on an overwhelmingly deserving diary. :)

That means more people see moutnaintop removal.

          •  That's a good thing... (0+ / 0-)

... so did you enjoy 'Derelict Landscapes'? It's a few years old... there's an MTR site on the border of KY / VA near me at a place called 'Flat Gap' - getting flatter every day. Went from 100 acres to over 1,000 in one year.

            •  Wow (0+ / 0-)

I liked that Derelict Landscapes focused on the value of land-ownings. I haven't quite read anything like that about MTR. But its a really really important angle that not a lot of people are considering.

But, it could be very valuable politically as far as stopping MTR. I mean, obviously its a mountain being blown up, but some people will only react when they think its gonna hit their wallet or increase their taxes!

are assessed as real estate, the value is diminished so that the overall economic health of a county's tax base is eroded.  That was the message behind the DL presentation. But the county continues to allow it to happen for short term gain (via severance taxes and payroll).

I've seen probably a dozen posts just like this today - every one is repeated about 10 times. Really. There's a bug somewhere, but it's not between your fingers and your keyboard!
