    It's nice to be reminded that medical and educational expenses, in a somewhat better-organized society, might not be deal-breakers.  

    In your view, how does the school system hold up? A lot of parents here seem to feel that the extremely hefty discretionary cost of private school is a must.  Glad I don't have to choose.

      I am really the wrong person to talk about schooling.  I left school over ten years ago and have no kids so I'm pretty far removed from it.

      In general, my uninformed opinion would be that while some parents do choose to send their kids to a private school, a public school education here shouldn't close doors to any opportunities.  While some schools are worse than others, there are ways around that for those who want them.  

      And the Canadian university system is essentially single-tiered.  For about the same price, you can go to one of the "old-money", internationally-known schools or to a niche player that better meets your needs.
