State v. federal voting patterns are not comparable.

We can't elect a Democrat governor in Massachusetts but any Republican running for federal office is DOA. Party lines are harder on federal elections.

Actually George Rhomney nearly knocked out Ted Kennedy and John Kerry stood a goodly chance at losing to William Weld (and might have if Dole hadn't tanked so badly in 1996).

      •  Kennedy/Romney (0+ / 0-)

A 58/41 Kennedy win is a landslide for Kennedy, not Romney nearly knocking him out.

        •  It was running (0+ / 0-)

The race was running much closer before the end.  I remember how many polls had Kennedy initially under 50%, and I also remember how much talk there was about Kennedy getting beat.  So I guess it isn't surprising that I don't remember the final result.

      •  Mitt, not George (0+ / 0-)

the latter was governor of Michigan who was one of the favorites for the republican nomination until he explained his previous support fot eh war in Vietnam by saying he had been brainwashed.

      •  Given Weld's in-state popularity (0+ / 0-)

He should have wiped the floor with Kerry. When push comes to shove, Massachusetts won't elect a Republican senator.
