If folks want to keep an eye out for troll behavior, why not just go to the hidden comments page?  Only TU's have access to it, it keeps the ugliness under cover, which is the point, right?  And if folks would like to add their troll rates, they're free to.  I've been to the dead threads where the troll rating/hunter/hunted wars raged, and I'd really hate to have that out in the open.  It just gets very caustic and can really be destructive. Bottom line, trolls love to create disruption and dissension and wedges, and this would only help them.

    (No hard feelings, Carnacki?)

are already hidden!  You can go there to try to rescue a wrongfully hidden comment, or to see whose diaries are being hidden, but not to see comments on the cusp.

hopefully no hard feelings.  I just hate the possibility that it could get really ugly.  There is someone on this thread right now who was thick in the troll hunter wars, whose comments, are almost all troll related somehow.  We're talking obsessive.  Do any of us really want to tangle with that?  I don't think so.  You want a little demonstration?  That person will almost surely reply to this comment and say 'who, me? where's your evidence, blah, blah, blah...'  It degenerates very quickly.  People take sides and end up in warring camps.  You don't even want to know.

to the troll stuff - I have to admit I've really shirked my troll patrol duty.

Hard feelings?  About what?  I see what you mean - spending much time on this would definitely change your approach to commenting.

I end up agreeing with peeder below, that the size of the troll rating problem is pretty much handled, we don't need to restart it with any techno gimmickry.

On rereading my comment, I can see how you might have inferred some heat that actually wasn't there.  Bare words are so  often not nearly a sufficient communication channel.

It is I who will sneak away ... clearly you are more experienced in this arena.

          •  no, I felt no heat, jotter, thanks- (3+ / 0-)

I just feel all teenie disagreeing with guys like you and Carnacki.  I've put you up on pedestals in my mental dkos sculpture garden of giants.

I'm ready for my close up now, Mr DeMille!

What I love about this place is the free exchange of ideas and willingness to consider what is said above who said it, whether friend or stranger.

Your comments helped focus me back on the actual problems taking place rather than on how my little piece of the technology worked in relation to them.

              Thanks.
