The 15th Amendment was enacted approximately 100 years before the Voting Rights Act, yet it was ignored.  The VRA gave it some teeth and enforceability.

After what has happened in Florida in 2000 & Ohio in 2004, and probably quite a few other states and elections throughout the country, we ought to be discussing expanding the geographical area covered by the VRA.

Just so that all is clear, I am a right winger.  Not the religious Right.

I would agree to the point, that if it going to be renewed before it expires NEXT year, that it should either include every state, or be allowed to disappear and let the pseudo racism calls disapear with it.

I would not lump Florida 2000 in with Ohio in 2004.  In Florida, the state was "called" early for Gore.  That kept nearly a half a million people in the next time zone from even coming out to vote (most areas there are republican heavy).  In ohio, there needed to be (obviously) more polling stations like we have in NY.  I have never even had to wait to cast my ballot EVER.  20+ years and have never seen a line to vote.
