  •  Don't Forget the Constitution Desecration Amend, (0+ / 0-)

I am all for pushing us to pass the Snowe/Dorgan Amendment, but I think we're forgetting about another important matter that will come up before the Senate this week. The Constitution Desecration Amendment (some clal it the flag burning amendment) is coming to a vote and it looks like it could pass by just 67 votes. This amendment will restrict freedom, change the Bill of Rights for the first time in our history, and tarnish the Constitution. We need to stop it quickly. If they pass a const. amendment to ban free expression, net neutrality could be easily overturned too in the future. We have to show the Senate that we will not stand for the destruction of free speech. Kos, I wish you would put up a thread about who we can call to stop this amendment. This should be a top priority for the netroots. Let's not sit around and then cry about it after it happens. Let's act now.

    •  They can pass all the bills they want (0+ / 0-)
but then they have to get 3/4 of the State Legislatures to pass the Amendment and that can take years. And then the Supreme court could over rule it.  The flag will not be protected under the Constitution but the Constitution will be protected under the flag.
Again I will remind folks there are three countries that ban flag burning, China, Cuba and Iran. Our role models?

the supreme court cannot overturn a constitutional amendment, that's the point, to overrule the supreme court, and secondly, all fifty states have passed nonbinding resolutions supporting a flag burning amendment, so it would pass the states if it gets through the senate, we have to stop it now

      •  Love the line (0+ / 0-)

The flag will not be protected under the Constitution but the Constitution will be protected under the flag.

        Is that yours?
