  •  Massey cited yesterday for mudslide in Logan, WV (7+ / 0-)

"Massey Energy Cited for Logan Mudslide"(Video Included) from WSAZ-TV in Huntington, WV. This mudslide occurred YESTERDAY in Logan County. We have received about 5 inches of rain over the last few days, and this was one of three to four major environmental problems to have occurred in southern WV as a result of mining. ICG was also cited in Nicholas County, and operations at another Massey site was halted in Mingo County.

The heavy rain isn't getting all the blame for a mudslide that shut down a busy road in Logan County. The Department of Environmental Protection cited Massey Energy for a mudslide that blocked State Route 17 near Ethel.

Massey energy was ordered to stop work that caused a Blackwater spill in Pigeon Creek in Mingo County. The state department also ordered international coal group to stop work blamed for a sediment pond overflow into the Birch River in Nicholas County.
