merits serious questioning -- as this can't be easily justified electorally: Feinstein.  I wonder at all the rest, but this one gets to me ...

I guess she didn't want to upset her big donors from the defense industry, eh?

I think a principled stance: "I hate flag burning ... but the right to burn the flag is the very type of obnoxious and offensive free speech that Americans have died to defend ... " And, of course, "Did President Bush taking a magic marker to a flag desecrate it? Do flag towels desecrate the Flag? Where is the limit?"

Or, to take your defense industry line, "Let us be clear -- flag burning has gone up 33%, from three incidents to four a year!  I am angered that the Republican Party is diverting our attention -- our expensive time that American citizens pay taxes to support -- to this diversionary issue rather than on real and serious issues.  For example, why are we not spending this time talking about how we can figure out how to get more resources for equipping our armed forces with the equipment to ensure this nation's security for decades to come?"

        •  Feinstein is my senator (6+ / 0-)

          and I'm pretty damn angry.

With the flag burning amendment, her insistance in staying in Iraq and not supporting Feingold in censuring Bush has pushed me over the edge.

I was very sorry during the primary that there wasn't a viable alternative to her.  Both she and Jane Harman do a lousy job in representing the Democrats of California.
