need not stick around for long, or be well-accepted, in order for their little poison pills to later be quoted out of context, and used to harm a group's reputation. Open forums and public groups will always be vulnerable to this nasty tactic.

I do believe that many -- though not all-- of the more incendiary remarks we see tend to come from ill-intentioned intruders. If as a community we strive to habitually observe a committment to the rule of law, it makes such intruders much easier to detect and expel.

But what about true-blue non-violent progressives who are just blowing off steam and doing some much-needed venting?  Well, even among friends, a level of caution suggests that each of us consider the use of appropriate qualifiers.

For instance, I'd like to see Bush and Cheney executed for treason and crimes against humanity ... but not 'til after they are impeached, indicted, tried, and convicted!

if the evidence warrants it, convicted.  I don't feel it necessary to go beyond that.  It might make me feel good, but it's really politically stupid.  The punishment should be whatever is appropriate once the relevant facts are known.  Period.

My apologies to students who took my U.S. Government class in the 90s: evidently the Constitution doesn't limit Presidential power after all. Who knew?
