    What's the reporter supposed to do, footnote his interview?

      If "some people" or "critics" are saying it, who are they? IMO this is a basic part of reporting... the whole 5 Ws thing?

        I agree with print media.  If you have a long interview, say 120 seconds, you are saying that the reporter must document the source of his quotes?

        That seems ridiculous to me.   I agree that, for instance with Gary Hart, they were saying that "people want to know if you are fucking that bimbo" but I didn't want to know that and no one that I knew wanted to know that.  Who were these people?  It is a little different if the source of the quotes and one view is pretty obvious (as in this case).

        So, on balance, you have somewhat of a point, but I'm not sure how much.
