It takes some gumption to make a trip like that so far out from a Presidential contest.  One thing I definitely appreciate about the Edwards message is the way it elevates political discourse.

We're starved for politicians that can motivate and inspire us into individual action.  Poverty is one of those issues that can truly motivate individuals.  Take the New Deal and many of the great moves made under LBJ on poverty.  Civic participation soared.

    Palmer for Iowa

I can't believe the "gumption", I just felt that I had to do something. And it was the greatest experience ever blogging. I'm going back for an August 11, 2006 event in Iowa. I have to pay for this ticket, but I'm staying with another blogger so it won't be too bad.

I've been following Edwards closely since the spring, I think the message is so potent and powerful. I'm a hard bitten cynic, really if I want to be honest. This message is so much deeper and truer than the Two Americas riff. It's time.

You're so right, in his wind-up at the end he talks about civil rights, aparteid and college kids taking it to the mat on certain issues. I'm not that young, but this is missing today. And there's so much that a single person can do today on the web or on the ground old school style.
