  •  I am exactly like that too (0+ / 0-)

I don't think I could leav the pound without adopting all of them.  It's so sad.

and people find me. I also look in the local papers for free giveaways. That's how I got my HoneyBee from a puppy mill. She was so damaged and then when I began to read about puppy mills I learned that she had been in a good one.

http://www.puppymillrescue.com or maybe it is net but check it out.

You can get rescue dogs withut going to the pound. Usually the desirable ones are picked up. It's the larger ones like Trouble that are expendable. I got my Dolly from freecycle. She is a border collie mix and I kept her because she is larger than the organization's license allows. I took her to an adoption at PetCo the first weekend and she was almost adopted as a playmate for someone's dog. So I brought her home again. My HoneyBee tends towards depressive behavior when I am busy so Dolly has been wonderful for her.

Then on July 4 I got a shih tzu mix who was just handed to me over the fence covered, and I mean covered with fleas and bare spots scratched raw and bleeding all over. I wanted to punch the woman and her friends having a nice barbeque who couldn't even take the time to dunk her in a bath. And I just know they voted for Bush. The typical type.

I bathed her three times right away to get the greasy dirty feeling off her fur and deflea her. She now has been wormed, vaccinated and she was supposed to be spayed but I am not quite sure as I can't find the scar. She is an angel and gets along with my cats and the other two so well. Much more obedient than they are too and very loving. She has also trained them to walk without leashes and to come faster. I am at the point where I think I will have to keep her too.

But this makes it hard to save more of them. I have one waiting at the hospital that needed surgery and the vet is doing everything for free to make the dog more adoptable. He has used up all his adopting clients so I got her.

It is a nice way to help an animal. Just find your local rescue group and find out what it requires (large, small etc)and when the universe sends you a helpless one you can take it knowing you can place it with a responsible organization. So you get to have a darling dog for a few days without the long term responsibility.
