Dick Lamm's flaws.  (Last seen negotiating on behalf of Tom Tancredo's immigrant bashing initiative.)

    •  Yes. He has a terrific blind spot ... (0+ / 0-)

...in that arena. But he was right on growth, abortion, and taking care of the poor.

      •  He was wrong on growth too (0+ / 0-)

Stopping the Denver Olympics failed to slow growth.  Delaying C-470 only made surface streets more choked.  It took others to come up with a positive growth agenda, leading to the FasTracks initiative that owes nothing to the Lamm legacy.  His growth positions are totally linked to his anti-immigration positions, and both are wrong.

...a good idea, and was only part of Lamm's growth-control plans, which, initially, had nothing to do with immigration, whatever may be the case now. As Coloradans have begun to learn, you can't build your way out of a traffic jam. Just as Lamm pointed out, C-470 would help speed up the spread of the sprawling blight that one now encounters even before exiting the mountains heading east. I could just as easily be in the east of Los Angeles suburbs except the McMansions here are stucco instead of clapboard.

the biggest exponent of Malthusian philosophy in politics -- I think of overpopulation as the driving motivator for him, but I was not in Colorado so others here would have a better sense.  He was also the "duty to die" guy, right?

My apologies to students who took my U.S. Government class in the 90s: evidently the Constitution doesn't limit Presidential power after all. Who knew?

      •  Lamm 'was' right on some things, but now... (0+ / 0-)

... Dick Lamm has gone off the deep end with his obsessive anti-immigrant, paranoid nativist views.  Read some of the things he's said and written in the past few years.  He's farther "out there" than people like Pat Buchanan.  Lamm's stuff is published approvingly in places like freerepublic, where they eagerly eat up his rantings about how "multiculturalism" will destroy America.

    •  Is Lamm a Republican now? (0+ / 0-)
