I left to go to college, not because of the economy. I had every intention of returning. Instead, I found Southern CA, and banished all thoughts of winter in favor of eternally mild weather and year round cycling.

I don't know about the hotel situation - we wouldn't need it, as my mom's still there, but I do know that they've put in at least two new Marriott hotels - one very large - in the general area. I would imagine that the other big chains would have followed suit.

I remember the first time I walked into my grandfather's house (in Boulder) after his death. Very difficult and heartbreaking. I was even more sad when the house sold. The childhood memories of that house are amazing, though.

I have tried several times to return to CO since I left in '86. I intended to return in '92, but met my first husband. Then we intended to return a few years later when they built the new DCC Marriott (ex worked for them at the time). Most recently, my husband (new, improved model) had a huge client there that wanted to hire him on permanently. Icky custody battles would have ensued, but we seriously considered it because the quality of Cherry Creek and Douglas county schools are so amazing. In the end, we're still here in CA.

CO is still the only place I'll consider allowing winter back into my life. I've been to NY (both city and upstate) and MI, where new and improved hubby grew up. No. Thank. You. I've lived in CA for almost 20 years, the blood is way too thin! :) (Sad, given my Norwegian heritage, but my Norwegian dad is here, too, so I don't get too much grief!)

but lucky you!  Idaho Springs is a place I would LOVE to live in.  As you know... the water's great.  Jump in!
