I believe I read it on Juan Cole's blog.  I am not sure.

Look, they are clearly indiscriminately bombing residential areas in both Gaza and Lebanon.  If you object to referring to that as deliberately dropping 500 pound bombs on innocent civilians, why don't you prove me wrong?

I know I am asking you to prove a negative, but I am pretty sure I am correct about this.

I repeatedly posted this assertion in another posting venue.  I was savaged by a bunch of right-wing posters for making any criticism at all of Israel.  But not one of them challenged my assertion that Israel was dropping 500 pound bombs on innocent civilians.

I do not think my description of the Israeli bombing is at all hyperbolic.

"clearly indiscriminately bombing residential areas in both Gaza and Lebanon"?

This makes no sense. Israel appears to be bombing Hamas and Hezbollah ofganizational targets, as well as ones that they could use militarily, in both places. If civilians have been killed as a result (and clearly they have been, which is deplorable) then that's clearly horrible--and from the civilians' point of view it clearly doesn't matter--but it is NOT the same thing as what you said--let alone the deliberate targeting of civilians that Hamas and Hezbollah are doing.

And I DO challenge your assertion that Israel was dropping 500 pound bombs on innocent civilians, if you're implying that this was deliberately meant to kill THEM, and not terrorist targets. Show me where that was happening.

I do not have a problem with your or anyone else's criticizing Israel. I do it myself so I'd be a hypocrite if I had a problem with this. I do, though, have a problem with unfounded criticisms of Israel--or anyone else for that matter.

      •  Bombing civilians is legitimate (0+ / 0-)
... as long as it is not the prime objective.

If there is a rocket launcher in your backyard (or was, just minutes ago) spouting death and destruction towards Israel, don't be amazed when a bomb comes your way.

and think about it for a moment. Really think about it. And imagine how it would feel if it was your loved ones who were incinerated as a result of a bomb dropped by people knowing that it would kill them, but, hey, it's ok, 'cause they aren't the primary target!

This is the kind of exactly the kind of thinking that robs us of our humanity.

I wrote - not what you implied.

I'm from Germany, I should know a thing or two about beeing on the receiving end of a bombing campaign, even though I'm too young to have it seen myself.

But frankly, the horrors Israel unleashed are a piece of cake compared to what the British and US forces did to German cities.

The key lesson learned there is once war starts, humantity takes a back seat. This is dictated by simple military necessity - once you start the killing its either you or me.

Lebanon has started this war.  Maybe a few Dresdens will be necessary to end it - listening to the war mongering sounds from the Lebanese Government which apparently can't even imagine stopping its attacks by dissolving those bandit groups one does not gain much hope.

( Note well - the Lebanese Goverment's idea of a ceasefire is that Israel stops shooting, while they themselves can continue. Else they would actually offer to destroy and disarm Hesbollah.)

    •  This is ridiculous (0+ / 0-)

If you are going to say they are "indiscriminately bombing residential areas", you need a source.

    •  Support, or retract, or get troll rated (0+ / 0-)
Reversing the the burden of proof -- "why don't you prove me wrong" -- is a typical troll tactic.

Your "clearly indiscriminately" description is inflammatory, you offer no basis for it, and it is not supported in the public record.

It's your claim. Support or retract.
