    that a decision on listing the American eel as endangered under the ESA has yet to be made.

    I am curious. Here in the Northwest, there is an ambitious program that collects juvenile salmon and barges them downstream, since the now still, now warm water won't carry them there fast enough. At the time these plans were put in effect, there was no consideration whatsoever for the Pacific lamprey, another catadromous species (although not closely related to the eel). In fact the diversion for salmon is itself quite destructive of juvenile lamprey.

    Are there similar problems in the northeast with dams, bypasses, and diversions?
