  •  I'm just worried that (6+ / 0-)

we are losing our focus and tearing ourselves apart at the same time. By the way, we are now only 4 weeks away from the one year anniversary of hurricane katrina. What a great news peg to remind Americans of the ineptitude of these charlatans.

    •  I agree with you 1000%... (7+ / 0-)

...I would simply submit that it's natural for people to want to use this site to discuss the political issues that are on their mind.  And certainly the Middle East is what's burning a hole in our breeches.  Further, the Middle East is clearly a series of issues that we as Democrats and Progressives do not agree on.  I would argue that DKOS is a good place to help us find common ground on these issues, because they are of substance to the current political debate.

The ongoing conflict is an extension of Bush's failed regime, his unwillingness to follow the Road Map, and the war in Iraq.  These are the issues that are shaping domestic politics as we speak.  I have an opinion that might differ from ten other Kossacks, but I want to hear their opinion so I can continue to review and reflect upon my own views.  That's what caused me to fall in love with this site in the early days - I could come here not only as an activist but as a person trying to gain some illumination on the politics of the day without the MSM spin.

In short, I understand where you're coming from but I don't share your fear - I'd be more afraid is Kossacks WEREN'T burning up bandwith talking about this stuff.  The opposite would be sign, in my mind, of a Bushesque lack of interest or curiousity.

      •  And it is important to me to learn how candidates (3+ / 0-)

view the I/P issue. To me, that is a defining point and of more personal importance than their stand on energy policies or many other things.  I believe what is occuring in the Middle East right now will affect every other issue that faces the United States for years to come. I don't believe you can separate it from our foreign policies, threats to our Constitutional rights, who is on the Supreme Court, political corruption, terrorist threats, and US funding for healthcare, education, domestic programs, and the list could go on and on.

    •  Right. This is a good time for... (4+ / 0-)

...opposition research.  You know that Rove, Mehlman et al. are doing it.

It was real estate dealings that got Duke Cunningham into trouble.  It would be cool if people were checking County Clerks to trace the real estate dealings of vulnerable incumbents now.  Then the research would be done, and the stories ready to launch in advance of early voting.  For one example.
