This site is nominally dedicated to electing Democrats to office.

But let's be honest - this site is really dedicated to discussion of the events and topics of the day - whatever they may be. That's what Kossacks love - that's why they come here. And when it comes to discussion, nothing's more interesting than conflict. Electing Democrats is a worthy goal, but when you're discussing it with a bunch of fellow Democrats, the key ingredient is missing. There's not enough conflict to keep the conversation moving.

Few things are more boring than reading 500 comments  about how reprehensible the Republicans are, and how awesome it'd be if the Democrats won.

On the other hand, a raging debate about Israel/Palestine makes for a pretty good read.

You can't really tell people what they should be interested in. Or actually, you can. But they'll be too busy arguing to listen.

to think about what they are doing. To ask themselves if what they are about to post will help or hurt our cause. To be responsible and respectful of others. To remember that the wider world is watching what we do and how we behave. That's all. Respectfully Mr. Belvedere, that seems possible.

Probable, no. Human nature will lead most Kossacks to ignore your most sensible advice.

Many people here (myself included) relish a great discussion. At the moment they post a comment or a diary, the thrill of the discussion outweighs practical thoughts of advancing a grander strategy. You can wish it weren't so (and I can understand why you would). But I don't see how practical, sensible diaries dedicated to electing Democrats can compete with a raging flamewar over who's more barbaric, the Jews or the Arabs. Conflict is interesting. It just is.

It's like eavesdropping on the subway. What conversation are you going to listen in on, the calm rational debate over public policy, or the drunk couple in a full-blown meltdown?

This is all the wider world and media is talking about right now anyway. You could pull the same stats out for CNN coverage--Anderson fucking Cooper is practically living in Galillee.

L/I/Ps diary on the list you could go and haunt jr.? What exactly is your point? Are you saying that just because the MSM and tabloids are obsessed with this story we have to be as well? Oh, by the way, this is not a new organization.
