  •  This is a long-term struggle (13+ / 0-)

If you're looking for quick won-loss events, stick with sports. And poker.

We lose no matter what happens on Tuesday. We're either irrelevant losers if we lose, or we're destroying the Democratic Party if we win.

We just need to ignore all that shit and soldier on, because at the end of the day, all their words mean nothing. The cause will rise or fall based on our own actions, not what others say about us.

I recommended this before I saw the author...too many beers.

I was at a DFA meetup tonight where we are dealing with petty crap - made me realize that politics are not for the meek, and anyone who thinks that they are all that important to the process really needs to wake up. if any of us, including kos, were to disappear tomorrow it would barely register as a blip in the big picture.

Make a neocon cry, buy un::Conventional - the YearlyKos experience in words and pictures.

If Lamont wins large and Lieberman drops out there might be momentary clamor but it won't mean much because in the end politics is about winners or losers. If, on the other hand, this drags on through November with Joe as an Independent then yes you're quite right who will get stuck with the blame tab.

    •  What does true victory look like? (0+ / 0-)

I think the true victory comes if Lamont wins decisively (as appears possible given today's Q-poll) and Lieberman decides not to go through with the independent bid.

We can hope Joe moves to Florida and retires from all public life, but that's wishful thinking.  What Joe will really do is just "retire" from the Senate (as in, "You're not breaking up wiht me, I'm breaking up with you!") and go join the McCain '08 campaign like I'm sure he's dying to do.  THat way he can make the transformation complete and just hope for a nice plum appointment from a Republican administration.

But we unloaded on Joe so much that the break is already made.  A re-elected Joementum in the Senate would be as bitter as our friend Zell.  If we're one Senator away from re-taking the chamber, then you can be sure Holy Joe will extort the hell out of us to give us our majority.
