  •  Everybody look what's going down ... (9+ / 0-)

    ARTIST: Buffalo Springfield
    TITLE: For What It's Worth
    LYRICS BY: Stephen Stills (1966)

    There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
    Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
    Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

    Stop, hey, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, now, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down
    Stop, children, what's that sound
    Everybody look what's going down

This is like '68.  The only difference is, we were young then, and swore nobody over 30 did or could or would ever "get it." Now the people who were at the police riots in Chicago are 50 ...and a whole lot of us still get it.  We may not flip the bird at cops anymore, but we still know how to oppose the establishment when we need to ...and mean it. That's what tonight is all about.

    Great diary, occamshatchet!

Sometimes the old times were indeed the good times.

      Come senators, congressmen
      Please heed the call
      Don't stand in the doorway
      Don't block up the hall
      For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
      There's a battle outside
      And it is ragin'.
      It'll soon shake your windows
      And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

      Come mothers and fathers
      Throughout the land
      And don't criticize
      What you can't understand
      Your sons and your daughters
      Are beyond your command
      Your old road is
      Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

      The line it is drawn
      The curse it is cast
      The slow one now
      Will later be fast
      As the present now
      Will later be past

      The order is

      Rapidly fadin'.
      And the first one now
      Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.
