the day today and posted on Hardblogger - 'Dirty Politics' reports the comments of one of Liebermans's campaign spokespeople:

(Tom Curry) On my way from Hartford to Southington on I-84, I get a call shortly before noon from Marion Steinfels, the spokeswoman for the Lieberman campaign.

“Are you aware of the attack on our website?” she asks me. The Lieberman site was knocked out of service in a “denial of service” attack yesterday afternoon and evening. “They’ve knocked us down again,” she says.

“It’s a coordinated effort to stop us from communicating with our voters. We’ve demanded that our opponent’s supporters stop this. It is dirty politics.”

To which Curry disingenuously comments, "Who is behind this attack is not clear."

Seems pretty clear to me who Marion was implicating - and why she called in the first place. When campaign spokespeople are on top of the story pushing the "blame" out before "national affairs writers" get ahold of it, it seems to me that means it's a story the campaign wants out there as fast as possible and it's not getting out there fast enough. Her statements were not damage control but a frontal assault.
