  •  Apparently, I am an extremist. (18+ / 0-)

I am almost 26 with a wife and two little girls. I live in a small city. I have a 3 bedroom/2 bath brick ranch house that I would not be able to afford if I lived in an area with a higer cost of living. I am a computer programmer. I drive an 11 year old beige Camry. My wife drives a station wagon. I am a Catholic who attends mass every week with my family.

I am an angry liberal extremist.

I wasn't always this way. I used to consider myself a "dead 'possom moderate" (i.e. in the middle of the road.) I even voted for a few Republicans. However, somehow I became an angry liberal extremist.

I am an extremist because I believe that peace is preferable to war in all but the most extreme situations. I believe in diplomacy. I believe that a military answer isn't always the best solution. I believe in the world community. I know it isn't perfect, but it's better than any alternative we've come up with yet.

I am an extremist because I believe in the common good. I believe that it is better to pay for healthcare than illness, education than ignorance, and social services than prisons. I believe that America is a land of opportunity, and I do not believe it is unfair to ask that those who have benefited most from this opportunity to be the ones who are the most responsible for making sure this opportunity is available to others.

I am an angry liberal extremist because I believe in  a balanced budget. I believe in responsible spending. I believe that "borrow and squander" is bad fiscal policy. I believe that our budget priorities should benefit the nation as a whole, not just a few small special interest groups.

I am an angry liberal extremist because I believe in the Constitution. I believe the First Amendment is what makes America great. I believe that the separation of church and state is good for the state and even better for the church. I believe in the right to bear arms. I believe that certain things are none of the Government's business. I believe the courts have the power to overturn laws passed by an overzealous legislature that infringe on our freedoms.

I am an angry liberal extremist because I believe that neither gay marriage nor flag burning are the most important issues facing America at this time.

I am an angry liberal extremist in the tradition of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

I am a radicalcommiepinko because I believe that minimum wage workers deserve a raise a hell of a lot more than ANYONE in Congress!!!

So, yes, I guess I am an angry, liberal, extremist.
