  •  I wasn't expecting a huge Lamont lead. (12+ / 0-)

I was HOPING they'd be tied...but remember, the Repug candidate only got 6%! That means that approx. 30% of Lieberman's support is from Repugs...and maybe more than that. Really, I think as long as Lamont can chip away at the very few Dems left supporting Lieberman...he can win...I also think it's looking likely that the GOP wants to find a "real" candidate for this race...and if they do that, and it isn't Lieberman...Lieberman will lose some of those Repug voters...thereby helping Lamont again.

Last possibility...Lieberman joins the Repugs...the Repug candidate drops out of the race and Lieberman stays in as their defacto candidate. What will likely happen in that case is that a LOT of the Dems left supporting Lieberman (10-15%) will get pissed and at least SOME of those will move over to Lamont's column.

Keep in mind...when Lamont started he really was a nobody and he jumped from that to win a primary against a 3-term incumbent Senator. That's a pretty huge move! He's shown the ability to move quite a bit in the past, there's a likelihood he'll be able to do that again...and really, at this point, he doesn't have the mountains to move that he did before.

Democrats excited by Lamont are probably more likely to turn out to vote than Republicans who kind of think Lieberman might almost be one of their own. And what sort of GOTV machine is the Connecticut for Lieberman party going to be able to build in such a short time? Aer the Republicans going to work openly on his behalf on the gorund in the stae. That could lose him some support.

Also, I think as Lieberman's money, endorsement and party support dry up, polls results will shift. Remember, the "loser" label is barely dry yet.

      •  Excellent excellent points!! (0+ / 0-)

I definitely think that MOmentum is on Lamont's side!

I really think Lieberman should just drop out. He's got slim to no shot and he's just losing face by staying in...and then he'll lose face when he loses again in November. He'd be best off getting it over with and dropping out now. Of course...he could wait for a busy news day and do it then...and then the embarrassment would be minimal.

when Lieberman kept on steaming through and he had no reason to hope?  Remember his losing speeches being as ridiculous in 2006 as they were in 2004 and 2000?  He's a born snake oils salesman.

He's got the willpower, venom and awkwardness of Nixon without the neurosis

You're a moron if you think I'm going to die for Israel or George Bush--Me.

          •  yeah...I've been thinking of those... (0+ / 0-)

this is one guy who just doesn't EVER seem to learn a lesson from the past! It's like he was really born to be a Repug in that sense!! I mean really, Dems should learn from their mistakes! Of course, he's not the only one...Shrum is likely STILL to find employment from some Dem moron...

            ugh.

I really really hope he wakes up and realizes he should drop out. I fear you might be right though...and in that case I'll just have to HOPE for one of the other scenarios.
