But only because I know what it's like to be molested. IF this is the guy, I hope they kill him slowly. I will withhold judgment until after a trial--but his being caught in Thailand, a country which really does little to discourage the pedophile sex trade, is a bit telling. SO is his being a 2nd grade teacher--pedoiphiles often work or volunteer in positions of trust which get them close to children.

On the other hand, this story should go away until he trial. I wish we had the British system where they don't even announce the perp's name until he's been charged--and after that,t here is a blanket silence until trial. That, alogn with the Scottish verdict of "Not Porven" (whcih means thejury thinsk he did it, but the evidence doesn'tmeet the burden of proof) woudl imporve our system of juris prudence  immensely. Too mych pre-trial publicity  taints the jury pool and makes a fair trial difficult (on the other hand,t he original meanign of "a jury of one's peers" meant hat you were tried by peopel who knew and had a good idea of whether youwere capable of such a criome).

    •  I thought JonBenet wasn't molested. (0+ / 0-)

Wasn't that the big "media frame-up" narrative, that the tabloids and everyone trumped up "DNA evidence" as if it were semen and implied the girl's father had been molesting her, but it turned out the DNA they were investigating was some hair or something the girl had pulled out and it wasn't the father's?

It truly is a horrible story--the murder of a child is bad enough, but I just can't imagine what it would be like to have to see tabloids saying that you molested and killed your own daughter when you know you did neither one. I just can't stand all the media circus around these cases. I really don't believe that it raises consciousness or helps prevent these crimes at all. All it does it 'entertain' bored people in some way, and I don't think that's very respectful of the dead. :-(

That we know of (they may have withheld that detail).  But  what I am talking about here is that the media going after pedophiles on the Net (more ephebophiles who target young teens, rather thanpedohiles) isn't a bad thing. For too long it wasn't talked about and children suffered ins silence, afraid they wouldn't be believed if they told Mommy that her boyfriend Uncle Frank has been raping them when he babysits, or that their soccer coach is a creep.
