        that fair firenze cannot be thus distilled to the obvious. each of the four, in his own way, left as much magic- if not revolution (ghirlandaio being more the syncretist than inventor). and i should also add alberti, whose facade echoes throughout the continent. and giotto, too- but his extant masterpiece resides in padova.
