  •  Many Dems have moved to West Boise (8+ / 0-)

We have the Idaho GOP to thank for splitting Boise between the two congressional districts. And as McJoan says, it's true that the 2nd District half of the city (North and East End) is more blue than the 1st.

BUT ... Boise's real estate market was on fire for a few years, and many newcomers and growing families have been priced out of the North and East ends. So I believe we'll see a Dem trend in West Boise and possibly even in some of the burbs, especially Nampa and Caldwell, this year.

Also worth noting: Brandi Swindell, a fellow funadementalist traveler of Sali's, got her butt kicked in her bid last fall for Boise City Council. She did poorly nearly citywide (except in an area where people were mad at having been annexed into the city limits), not just in the yuppie areas. I really do feel the fundies have overreached, and that people in all of the increasingly cosmopolitan Boise metro area are fed up with these folks.

Help Larry Grant (ID-01) defeat the worst wingnut of the year. Read more at Netroots for Grant.

    •  West Boise karma (0+ / 0-)

So... is Eagle in the 1st?  I should think Grant would get plenty of votes there.  I agree that it seems he should receive plenty of votes out in Nampa and Caldwell -- particularly given his Fruitland boyhood and his personal story.

This wording in the "R's for Grant" fits my sense of Idaho:

"More and more Idaho Republicans are choosing to put principle above partisanship in the critical race for Congress in the Idaho First District.

It was once considered a political virtue in our nation to conduct oneself in public life in such a way as to earn the respect and the support of people in both political parties. We think it should be a virtue again."

My personal experiences are that Idahoans are practical people who value principle above partisanship.  For that reason, the fundies have overreached.  Finally.

What I find most heartening is the caliber of people stepping up to run as Dems.  2006 promises to double the IQ points in the US Congress... or perhaps triple it.
