  •  Progressives & Democrats: NOT the same thing! (0+ / 0-)

I love Bill Moyers. In the same speech he describes the fate of two families he followed closely thoughout the 90's and documented in his PBS series "Surviving the Good Times". The principal breadwinners were laid off at the beginning of the 90's when their jobs were offshored, but while the rest of the country celebrated in an 'irrational enthusiasm', they lost their houses and went into debt over medical bills. Moyers writes,

What turns their personal tragedy into a political travesty is that they are patriotic. They love this country. But they no longer believe they matter to the people who run the country. When our film opens, both families are watching the inauguration of Bill Clinton on television in 1992. By the end of the decade they were no longer paying attention to politics. They don't see it connecting to their lives. They don't think their concerns will ever be addressed by the political, corporate, and media elites who make up our dominant class. They are not cynical, because they are deeply religious people with no capacity for cynicism, but they know the system is rigged against them. They know this, and we know this.

Encourage all candidates to run as Progressive Democrats! I'm convinced that Jerome and Markos are completely right about the significance of the division in the Democratic party, and I'm convinced as all hell that HRC would be a disasterous candidate (see Moyers quote above).

But how do you communicate the difference to regular people, who look at the Democratic party and see HRC on the cover of Time?
