Was apparently duped by ABC. Please call or write very politely about how your trust in their accuracy has been damaged by the companion curriculum guide for this movie.

The phone reps, at least, are very nice and the one I talked to, at least, sounded genuinely concerned.

They're good guys, in a bad position. Let's help them find a solution to the problem.

Democracyfest Incorporated thanks all those who made the 3rd Annual DemocracyFest a success.

Make it a point with administrators and teachers that you want to observe in your student's classrooms using the Scholastic Lesson Plan on The Path to 9/11.  Take notes to discuss with your child about what should have been presented as truth and where the lesson lead students astray.

I wrote that before getting the backstory on Scholastic.

They are not the enemy, so please be respectful.

I still think it was an unfortunate blunder on their part, but definitely not a deliberate collusion.

A docudrama on 9/11? Sirens would have gone off in my head about the potential controversy that could cause, whether the heat came from Dems or repugs. And since when did TV fiction become the basis for education? All my TV projects in high school were based on documentaries, not hybrids.

Schloastic still has a chance to correct the problem - voicing concerns in a respectful way will be much more productive than anger.

Scholastic is a mega corporation with products in every classroom of every school and in virtually every home in America.  If this is a just a blunder, it is a mega blunder that I will neither excuse nor forget.  They have already done a great deal of damage with their endorsement of this propaganda.  I might be able to mend my relationship with Scholastic.  Here’s what it would take for me:

They must act immediately to do everything in their power to remedy.  This includes replacing the materials with an apology along the lines of “Because of debate over the accuracy of this film, Scholastic is no longer able to endorse or encourage classroom use.”  They have to send this apology to the 100,000 teachers they sent the material to.

This “mistake” will leave a permanent asterisk on the word trust when I speak of Scholastic and if they do not act very, very quickly to eradicate their endorsement of this propaganda, I will do everything in my power to eradicate Scholastic from American classrooms.

The education of our children is a very serious matter and I can’t support any organization this powerful that makes mistakes this big.

Although I have been lifelong customer, I will not be an apologist for Scholastic.
