  •  The Unbearable Whiteness of Barbie (0+ / 0-)

SusanG's posts rarely fail to conjure up the image of a college-educated naif who grew up in somewhere suburbia, America ~ never having herself experienced a (single; ie., abandoned, typically) mother's terror of spending the night in eg., Watts or Oakland, CA ~ in a home or housing project where the children try to sleep through the night without being awakened by the constant cacophony of gunfire outside their iron-bar clad doors and windows.

of course the American "War On Drugs" is absurd; of course, it has served as ugly precedent for the erosion of American citizens' Civil Liberties; of course, Americans need to de-criminalize and regulate, thus, recreational drugs. Prohibition didn't / doesn't work? duh!

of course more and more American law enforcement personnel wear Body Armor, drive Armored Vehicles, and carry Automatic Weapons: if you had to send your father, husband, brother or son (or mother, wife, sister or daughter) into the free-fire zone that is "the wrong side of the tracks," to confront at 4AM an obviously well-armed and probably well-organized gang terrorizing anyone living in or venturing into what they perceive to be their turf ~ night after terrifying night : all for a salary so puny that they, themselves the Police and the Firefighters and the Ambulance Drivers et al cannot afford to live where, say ~ SusanG sleeps soundly... (!)

oh, come on, SusanG, GET REAL: get out into the world and smell the gunpowder. Pray don't whine here about seeing red about some raid in the newspaper ~ until you have seen the blood on the streets, grrrl.

    •  So much for assumptions, eh? (5+ / 0-)

Married as I am to a former Los Angeles police officer who received a hero's award from the state for entering a building and talking down a kid with a rifle who wanted to take himself -- and some hostages and several cops and emergency personnel -- out of the realm of the living forever.

There are so many discrepancies between your ridiculous imaginary version of me and what my real life is like, it would take a week to set you straight.

But don't let that stop you. You seem quite in love with your own presumptive judgments and your verbiage. Carry on.

      •  thank you for your "permission" (0+ / 0-)

to dis-agree with your post (!)

RE: "so many discrepancies between your ridiculous imaginary version of me and what my real life is like... Married as I am to a former Los Angeles police officer."

There are so many discrepancies between your FEAR MONGERING of Authority Figures in general, and The Police, specifically, here ~ and being married to a decorated Police Officer...

...that one wonders how in the world YOU reconcile your dilemma apparent-?

RE: "You seem quite in love with your own presumptive judgments and your verbiage"

Psychological projection : "a defence mechanism in which one attributes (ie., "projects") one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts and/or emotions [behaviour] to others."

I apologize, SusanG. You are not a naif, at all ~ you are simply a blogger demagogue, rabble-rousing to bask in the reflected glow of a hundred, "Me, Too!" resposnes...

...in your mind YOU are not the narcissist : anyone who dis-agrees with you, "is a narcissist."

        _
i'm not a narcissist, Susan, i am a provocateur {grin} It's not WHO YOU ARE, Susan; it's THE IMAGE YOU PRESENT = write: nous sommes celui qui nous feignons pour etre : we are that which we pretend to be. In reality, you are a woman married to a Police Officer. Here, you have succeeded only in the fear mongering of Police Officers, to a chorus of Base Instinct angst = fear and anger responses.

The dilemma apparent is yours, not mine.

i am aware that i have provoked you roughly. my motivation was, indeed to get your attention; hopefully, to look into this mirror and realize what you were really doing. You are capable of better ~ doing so much more, Susan. If i did not believe otherwise, i would not have taken the trouble.
