  •  That has to be one of the BIGGEST (15+ / 0-)

missed chances in history. I just want to scream when I think of how much better off the entire planet would've been, if they'd actually engaged our percieved "enemies", come to terms with them, and how quickly we could have gotten Al Qaeda boxed up and dealt with.

Iran especially was a VERY big missed chance. They were ripe and ready to go to town with us, rolling into Afghanistan. If I remember correctly (and the info I read legit), they were even providing on the ground support and intel, when we went in.

Course there wouldn't have been all these wonderful opportunities to make truckloads of money on all the conflict either.

    Go figure.

    •  No, there would have been (4+ / 0-)

truckloads of money to be made in Iran instead.

They have oil, they need stuff, too.

And of course, at some point the sanctions would have been lifted from Iraq, and they also would have needed lots and lots of help modernizing their oil wells.

Now? It will all go to France, Russia, etc. Not us.

    •  Failure Doesn't Cover It (5+ / 0-)

I don't know of a word strong enough to cover the opportunities for global understanding, cooperation and perhaps world peace that were squandered by this man and his administration.

In reading these comments, the thought that's come to mind is why. And the only reason that I can fathom is that had he and his puppeteers accepted the offered foreign aid, the American public would have learned much sooner of the monumental intelligence failures. With the wound still very much open in the public consciousness, this administration would have had to face investigation and scrutiny for its colossal ineptitude.

By using the lone cowboy facing down some mythical axis of evil, they were able to consolidate power, decimate the Constitution, and divide the country and its people.

The emperor would have been revealed as naked in 2001, to even a lot of the kool-aid drinkers. Instead, he was given a five year pass.

      •  A very good possibility (3+ / 0-)

As usual, there has probably been quite a number of circumstances and motivations for what's happened, when, and by whom.

Personally, and I know I'm not alone in this, I think the emperor's lil butt was showing right from the beginning.

But these bastards seem to have these overwhelming delusions of grandeur. That they have some special place in history, and have to be all dramatic about it. That they're going to be lauded as great men in American history, simply because they spout grandiose BULLSHIT, and make dramatic and huge sweeping changes in policy.

Still doesn't seem to occur to them that those same shifts in policy are going to doom them to the depths of disgrace, and deny them the greatness they seem to assume they already have.
