It’s less of an issue in books than in movies. Believe it or not (and most people don’t), ideas are the easy part. Actually writing the book is hard, and then it’s likely to take years for a new writer to sell it, by which point mine will probably no longer be in print anyway.

(2 longer versions of this got eaten by site updates... sorry.)

    •  I admire that, too (3+ / 0-)

My book has been sitting in a box full of notes for approximately 10 years. I never leave a grocery slip or napkin without a note...but somehow no book. :-(

I can't figure out what's stopping me. I know how to manage a project. I'm a decent writer. I know if I just write a little a day, it would be done in a few months. I know about the Pesky Internal Editor. I'm just missing that "shape it into a story" gene. :-(

Funny, I have those same scraps and bits, but lack the organization to collect them all into a single box.

When the idea creates pressure inside you, when something in you finds it too uncomfortable to carry any longer, it will emerge. It will burst out like some of the more disgusting bodily functions. At least, that's how it happens in my world.
