(Hey, Hesiod, Vicki, Who ♥ Al Gore here.)

I'm also posting this link:  Intelligent Design.  I'd include some money quotes, but I can't access any links to blogger from work.  I sent it earlier this morning to a friend of mine who was one of those people Dick DeVos claims he never fired from Amway.

A close friend of mine was one of those middle managers in product development and marketing whose department was shipped to China.

... back in the mid 90's who worked at Amway, middle management on the factory floor. They cut his pay and benefits, and he had to take a part time job to make up the difference. I seem to remember him saying they also got rid of some of his employees and filled their spots with temps, but the could have been an early retirement thing, too.

He was not a happy camper.

Unfortunately this is all anecdotal and I can't prove the "temp" thing on paper. I know that one of the companies that Dick split off from Amway hires temps, but it will take the Granholm people/MDP to point all that out.

is definitely on the record about what Amway did to him (and many, many others).

Some folks at Eschaton have suggested that I blog about his actual story, but he prefers to stay anonymous, since he's in the restaurant business now and doesn't want to get wrapped up in Amway publicity.

I really don't blame him one bit.

His story is very sad, though.  He had a good job - loved what he was doing - and then they moved it on him.

I often wonder if corporate executives ever think what it's like to walk a mile in the moccasins of the people who work for them.

This country continues to let me down.  It's being run like a business (a bad business, at that).

About Steelcase and how their profits were at a five year high.

How did they do it? Layoffs and plant closings. The workers are getting screwed, and management people like DeVos is getting rich.

Time for America to wake up to the fact that Republican policies are killing us.
