    Mrs. Sheehan,
This post is deceptive - or misleading at best. I've watched the Blitzer/Bush interview and the statement by President Bush, which you cleverly edited, is in no way referring to the loss of your son or any other troops in Iraq.  He simply stated (albeit optimistically) that he believes this period of violence will just be “a comma” in the written history of Iraq (with the emphasis on the violence itself – not the loss of life). In the full context of the statement he explained how 12 million Iraqis (the middle part that you edited out) had just voted and he believed their desire for freedom and democracy would eventually win the peace.  Only history will tell us about Iraq’s current struggle - today’s violence will just grow worse or it will be a temporary storm (i.e. comma) before the peace.

As a military man myself, I can assure you that all service members hope President Bush is correct - that our sacrifices today will result in a safer world for all tomorrow.

Honest debate is good for our country, but misleading or dishonest public statements only fuel anger and dissention.

      Actually, you are wrong about:

I can assure you that all service members hope President Bush is correct - that our sacrifices today will result in a safer world for all tomorrow.

There are many that have gone to Iraq who have no confidence in Bush - Cindy's friend Jeff Key for one.

Jeff has an organization called the Mehadi Foundation that helps returning soldiers cope with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and assists Iraqis rebuilding their war-torn land - I submit that is doing much more to result in a "safer world" than anything Bush can concieve of.

      •  You missed the point (0+ / 0-)

Rico, I said, "[we] hope Pres Bush is correct - that our sacrifices will result in a safer world." Where did you get "confidence in Bush"?

I praise any group trying to help soldiers or people to have a better life. This conflict requires efforts on multiple fronts...and if Jeff Key is helping soldiers and the Iraqi people then I praise his efforts.
