  •  i am busting my ass (8+ / 0-)

day in and day out to build this party. all i can say is that there just isn't any room in that party for those who would piss on the constitution in the mistaken hope that mean republicans won't say mean things about them. i will support primary opponents to anyone who goes along with this travesty. anyone at all.

this ain't the bankruptcy bill. this ain't a senate confirmation vote. anyone who doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to plant a fucking flag here and stand their ground for the constitution, for the rule of law and for common human decency should goddamn well be looking over their shoulder come primary time. if you can't make a stand here, then you'll never do so anywhere. if you can't say no to torture and an ever expanding rewach of executive power, then i don't really care what you think about much else. period.

i am working my ass off to make this party one that reflects core democratic values and it's a big tent, but it ain't that big.

what pisses me off most is that so many folks seem to have no recollection at all of all the other times they've caved and gone along with these assholes. it always blows up in all our faces and it never inoculates them from being portrayed as osama's handmaid. never.

    •  Love your passion! (4+ / 0-)

This whole episode reminds me of a lesson my (extremely right wing) brother-in-law taught me when I was very young:

If you don't stand for something,
      you'll fall for anything.

Of course, little did he know that I'd take that to heart and grow up to become the "enemy". ;o)

you've calmed down a little. And GREAT to see that you ARE doing what you can. I was just offering a little comfort - you are probably a regular poster on here and most people know your work and words. I'm an itinerant newbie.
Thanks for the reply - I am sure others will be glad to read it too.
By the way, here is the US House Roll Call on the bill:

    •  HRC said that it takes a village. (4+ / 0-)

      She was right!

But also takes a decade to regenerate a party. (Not necessarily along the HRC lines, but along the interests of the national village.)

And there is ebb and flow in the politics of everything.  If this bad bill gets passed, we can come back to it.  The most important thing is that we create the power TO come back to it.

      So maintain your righteous anger.

The numbers are moving in our direction.  Almost everywhere it would seem, per the lead diaries here.

I find this as amazing as it is promising.  Long-term.

at the effect that this bill's passage will have on our international standing. Yes we can go back and fix SOME things in a matter of years, but to regain the respect of the world is going to take decades. The idiots!!!!!

I don't know how it will take to make it all work out, but I do know that the longer the other guys stay in power, the more it stretches out the resolution.

          Again, agreed!

gives me hope.  I am visualizing a Democrat being inaugurated in January of 2009, and this President of hope telling the world that we will do what it takes to regain respect in the eyes of the world.
