I probably passed your old school often enough.

Up on the Hill, folks are pretty much well-off. Down by the Market, things are tougher.

I believe my friends went to Nakasero, but I was awful small back then.

We lived on the hill. Nice place. There was a police fort on the crest of the hill behind us. I remember passing it, and seeing the 50-caliber machine gun mounted on the roof, pointing at the gate.

      I just found this.

I'll poke around a bit, and see if I can jog up some memories. I was in fourth grade at the time, so I was but a wee laddie.

It was definitely on Nakasero Hill. I think we may have lived on McKinnon. I remember that I had to walk through our rear neighbors' yard to get to the road that led to the fort (there was a candy store across the street from the fort, which was our destination).

I remember the fruit bats in Kampala Park. Where they held the executions.

Our school was just across the street from some soccer fields. There was an African school (where my friends went) across the street and to the left.

There was a high wall behind the school, and Amin's Fun House was just on the other side of that.

The one thing about Uganda that most people don't understand is that it may just be the most beautiful country on Earth. It is absolutely stunning.

Just a bit on the unstable side.

...folks ever take you upcountry? or to Rwenzori? Murchison?

          My favorite was Queen Elizabeth/Semliki.

I still remember the Rift Valley Vista from the Eastern Escarpment.

          Enough about me.

Were you born there, and emigrated/run like hell, or were you a transient like Moi?

          What year did you leave?

My email addy is in my profile. This thread may bore others, and I won't get specific on it, as I like to stay relatively anonymous.
