  •  Boise isn't in the 1st (0+ / 0-)

Some of the suburbs of Boise are in the 1st CD, but Boise is not, the district wraps arround Boise so that most of Ada County is in the 2nd.  Maybe its more even than I thought, but I would still wager that most of the population in the 1st is North of the time zone bridge, you've got the Camus Prairie towns +Lewiston, Moscow, CDA, Sandpoint, and Post Falls up in the North.  Some of the Boise suburbs in the first have some respectable population size to them, but with Boise proper being in the 2nd CD I would wager that most of the population is north in the Pacific time zone.

    •  Where is Idaho's 1st CD? (0+ / 0-)

You are right that Idaho's 1st congressional district splits through Boise, but there are still at least 150,000 or more who are in it. Suburbs to the west aren't technically Boise (Meridian, Eagle) but they are in the 1st CD and are part of the Boise media market. Also, 20 miles west of Boise is a town called Nampa, which is the seat of Idaho's Hispanic population. That's where Grant's campaign HQ is, and he has campaigned among Spanish-speaking voters more than any candidate of either party in Idaho history. He publishes most if not all his materials in Spanish. It's a stellar campaign organization, without a delusional bone among them.

        ID-01 district map

Rough population estimates from US Census Bureau site (2003):

        major cities in northern ID-01:
        Coeur d'Alene-37K

        major cities in southern ID-01:
        Boise-208K (split)

In general, northern ID is forested mountain ranges, southern ID is high desert, farm/ranchland
