    The Political Safari
    --Laura Fiorell, 9/29/2006

U.S. Rep. Mark Foley’s resignation in the face of an expanding sex scandal is the buzz of the blogosphere today. For an overview of coverage, check out Smashed Frog.

The Frog blog explicates the various ironies involved in Foley’s case, notably his standing on the Missing and Exploited Children Caucus. For shame.

Your safari guide loves a good scandal, but there are some links I won’t post. This story escalates into “eew” territory faster than anything since Monica Lewinsky. If you want to read transcripts of the explicit Internet chats, you won’t need me to take you there.

The anti-Foley camp is now awaiting word on who will replace the disgraced congressman as the Republican candidate this November. Much more genteel statements from Foley’s former opposition in the upcoming election are available at The Hotline.

Here’s a letter from opponent Tim Mahoney and one from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
