Don't quit with the "$100 Countdown," we'll be back on that road after the election.

Generally, the average American thinks of the "economy" in terms of how their 401K is doing and how much it costs to fill up their gas tank.

I have absolutely no proof, but it does strike me as a little fishy that a few weeks before a major election that the gas prices are coming down (plummeting, some would say) and the stock market is flying around 11,000... like it was before the dot-com bust.

Most of the candidates (alas, even Dems) ARE NOT talking about the gigantic budget/trade deficits, the whittling away at the middle class, or abysmal state of health care in the US.

But the average voter's 401K plan is doing better than it has been recently and it takes under $30 to fill the average tank, so hey everthing is fucking great! Let's vote for the incumbents to keep the status quo!

    Methinks we are being manipulated.

was assembling various funds managers and other poobahs, to scoff at the "Peak Oil hand wringers".

I wondered, upon hearing them join hands and sing Kumbayah, what they were talking about.  Who are they trying to con?  The medium sized investor who does not do their homework?  Trying to keep folks from insisting that their portfolio holdings be changed?

I am always suspicious when those who want to control a discussion began to gang up on an idea.

people don't mind being manipulated if "everthing is fucking great!"
that alone irritates the hell out of me.... of course my personal value is not tied up in my 401k (that is also because I am an artist and organizer and don't have money for such silly things as "retirement") what is retirement anyway ?
