is that I get the ST Pete Times because I can't stand the Op Ed page of the Tampa Tribune.

But the St Pete Times decision to ignore this story is beyond indefensible.  Get this - they knew of TWO pages that been approached by Foley.

Here is the pathetic defense they offered this morning:

    http://www.sptimes.com/...

"The Times tracked down the boy, who said he cut off communications with Foley after the e-mails. His parents told the Times they did not want their son to be named.

Another former page said he, too, had received e-mails from the 52-year-old congressman - who was popular with the pages because he struck up conversation - but the former page said he had not seen Foley do anything improper. Foley told the Times that he was just being friendly.

The Times and other news organizations did not publish their stories because reporters and editors found insufficient evidence of wrongdoing. But the reporters' calls had alerted Republican lawmakers, who now say they moved quickly to investigate the matter."

Both these papers were BIG TIME.  They were some of the best news organizations in the world.

I'd love to see the story some day of how and why news reporting in America went away.  Because that's what happened - it just went away.

In fairness, a century ago the press was far more "yellow" than it is today, with just a few iconic muckrakers doing the real work, but for a few decades, journalism was an honest pursuit.

And it isn't entirely the fault of money, because media publishing has always been in the hands of the rich and powerful.

      So what made it happen?
