  •  Fiedler saying Foley "known to be gay"? (5+ / 0-)

Tom Fiedler, executive editor of the Herald. "Given the potentially devastating impact that a false suggestion of pedophilia could have on anyone, not to mention a congressman known to be gay, and lacking any corroborating information, we chose not to do a story."

I have heard lots of indication that Foley is a pedophile who preys on adolescent males.  However I have hear NO indications whatsoever that Mark Foley was gay, i.e. and adult male whose primary sexual interest is in other adult males.  So, what about it?  IS Foley an out homosexual, or a semi-closeted homosexual (can't be too totally closeted if the staff of the newspaper knew about it)?  If so, I want details!  Club surveillance videos!  Parade photos! Domestic partner regisitries!  Pet corgis!

If not, well then ... I must assume Fiedler is a bigot.  Who very mistakenly and offensively thinks that all queers are child abusers.

      From Wikipedia:

In 2003, Foley was widely considered the Republican frontrunner for Bob Graham's Senate seat... However, longstanding rumors surfaced that Foley was either gay or bisexual and was in a longterm relationship with another man. The story was initially published only in the gay press;[7][8] then the New Times broke the story in the mainstream press. Other papers, including the New York Press,[9] then addressed the topic. Foley held a press conference to denounce the "revolting" rumors and stated that his sexual orientation was unimportant, but did not specifically deny the rumors.

      Here's those Gay Press citations:

Boston Phoenix, May 30, 2003: Being gay in the GOP: Congressman Mark Foley: A model of political hypocrisy and personal cowardice

Gay City News, May 30, 2003: Is He Gay or Not? U.S. Rep. Mark Foley calls press to say he won’t talk about his sexual orientation

If he thought he was about to be exposed as a pedophile, NO WONDER he refused to talk about it! Not that coming out would be overly easy as a Republican candidate.

orientation is being made an issue.  It isn't relevant.  And there's a comment above with similar quotes from others.  Atrocious.

because I've been making a big deal about how he is a pederast which is very, very, very different than being gay.

Now, if in fact he is a pederast and ALSO gay, that is still different but not AS different.  And it makes MY efforts to stress the distinction a lot harder.

Thanks again, bub.  You can really count on a Republican to mess things up for everybody.
