sometimes it is easier to be honest with people you are not seeing face to face than it is with people you are close to.

Last winter when I was with my daughter, I knew she was in counceling and we had some long personal discussions about her mental state and I wasn't overly worried, though concerned.

After I left and returned home - a 1000 miles away, she "disappeared" - fled the state with intentions of committing suicide.  Luckily she didn't - but did wind up with an old boyfriend, who lied to her about being done with drugs and she wound up pregnant and in a place with no family or friends.  It has been horrible for us both.  But she is safe, has a 3 week old and is in a shelter getting help now.

She told me tonight, when I was telling her about this situation that she had  expressed that she was considering suicide in an on-line community she participated in occasionally.  No one there knew her well enough or cared enough to reach out to her then.

She said she had been too worried about hurting or adding to my own burdens to share with me when I was with her because I had been having a horrible year and she was worried about me as much as she was capable of.  she sent me off with her puppy to housetrain for her promising to come get it in a month as her therapist was reccomending she take a break from work.

Lives can just have so many twists and turns in them.  I guess now I would rather err on the side of overconcern.
