    •  if you want confederacy, (5+ / 0-)

then arizona territory and new mexico territory also...

remember, the south is not locked into the civil war days, folks-- there is something about shared culture, language, etc.

Stereotyping is not a good thing, folks...

and i guess i can understand that texas is its own phenomenon, i.e. not exactly a "southern" state by culture.  but in terms of modern-day voting demographics, it's the south, ya'll.

      •  well actually... (0+ / 0-)

... now that you got me thinking about it, I don't believe Texas ever really joined the confederacy.

A bunch of renegade secessionists staged a coup, threw Sam Houston out of the governor's office, and then... well lets just say they were no Sam Houston when it came time to fight. Got their tails kicked.

was part of an anti-secession delegation from northern Alabama to the secession convention. Unfortunately, they were prevented from caucusing or trying to convince others not to secede, as they were thrown in jail upon arrival and only let out when it was time to vote. They didn't want to fight in no rich man's war, they said. Doesn't surprise me a lot of them feel the same way today.

What's the difference between Vietnam and Iraq? Bush knew how to get out of Vietnam.
