"Is Chris Shays losing it?" the answer is clearly that he's already "lost it" if "it" refers to any sense of civility, justice, integrity, clear-headedness, dignity, moral behavior, and "you fill in the blank."

It never ceases to amaze me that Republicans will continue to say anything to deflect criticism from themselves, however well-deserved. They will do anything to avoid taking responsibility for their actions, even when those actions clearly cross the boundaries of the ethical treatment of people.

Where in the Geneva Convention does it say it is okay to sexually torture, abuse and belittle prisoners? Where does it say that it's okay to defacate and urinate on prisoners, and force them into illicit sexual behavior? Where does it say that it is okay to perpetuate religious violence on prisoners, when you know that what you are doing or forcing them to do violates their deeply held beliefs and principles?

When you excuse the behavior, you are just as culpable as if you committed the acts yourself. I hope the GOP feels proud of what they have become.
