  •  What really sucks... (6+ / 0-)

Is that the MORE money they spend, the less factual information is disseminated to the voting public.

How many MILLIONS will have been spent this year by both parties, and the dude sitting next to me at work has no earthly idea what the issues are?  We have the most dis-informed public in the history of the world. Ugh.

    •  Total agreement there, but it's a media issue (5+ / 0-)

Candidates are limited to 30 sec ads, and the occasional televised debate. The media are the gatekeepers to an informed electorate.

Something that needs to be addressed (ie the "fairness doctrine" restored), as much as campaign finance.

media is THE problem. They're all paid liars who love to suck the corporate teat.
And the FCC has no teeth.

I wouldn't call it THE problem, this is a much more complicated mess than any one, individual lynchpin issue or dysfunction.

Don't get me wrong, it IS a major part. Just as we've come a long way in the realm of organizing, fundraising, and activism, we've got the party listening finally, a voice, a much bigger bull-horn than we had just a couple years ago. The cable news folks have actually hired SPECIFIC PEOPLE, to watch the netroots for information and public opinion.

Once your foots in the door, it's much easier to keep prying that damn thing open and get in. The biggest hurdle is crossed. Plenty left to learn and influence, but think of it as a beach-head, to use a military combat term. It is battle of a sort that we are doing. Intellectual battle, I won't use the term that's been framed out from the other side of the aisle, but you know what I mean.

Our voices are echoing out into the lecture hall, more and more.

And we keep on upgrading the sound deck, new mixers, new speakers, new audiences.

For the rest, there's electoral integrity, there's policy, economics, infrastructure, climate change, judicial relevance, intelligence, and defense. All of which are in disarray, all of which have some rather serious ramifications.

We got a lot of work ahead of us, and I agree, media and information is definitely in the top 5. No doubt. Need to be able to multi-task. :)

Sorry... it's one of those nights!
