  •  L. Brooks = odd duck (1+ / 0-)

Anyone who can introduce Dick DeVos to the Detroit Economic Club as the second coming of Ken Lay as of a month ago still knows the score.  I don't want to defend him too hard, but from my experiences with him long ago, here's his deal:

    L. Brooks treats Oakland County as a city-state, his successful region surrounded by a greater Michigan that's more screwed up than his turf is.  As evidenced by his repeated comments about the Taliban wing of the Republican party out west, he doesn't care too much about statewide politics other than how it benefits Oakland County.  If that means playing "screw you" politics to the state, fine.  At the end of the day, he thinks he can extract more for Oakland County out of a DeVos that has to suck up to him than out of Granholm.  Out of the ~$140 million she's spent on 21st Century Jobs funds to 85 organizations, only $5 million went to 3 outfits in Oakland County, so he has a point.  He doesn't see Granholm doing Oakland County any favors, despite Oakland County being the most prosperous county in Michigan.

Bringing this back to Trupiano, note that Patterson does not endorse McCotter, at least AFAICT.  I bet that has a lot to do with McCotter opposing the regional transit plan that Patterson was in favor of.

    •  Another point. He invited Granholm overseas on (0+ / 0-)

one of his company recruiting trips.  When they got back, she dissed him good.  She gave him no credit whatsoever and acted like the whole thing was her deal.  That was stupid.  When Brooks reached out, she should have really teamed with him instead of using him.  Have you seen the economic outlook study on his Automation Alley website???  It looks promising, I have had a chance to read it yet.  They are looking at "viable" jobs for MI future. Oakland/Washtenaw is where its at.
