  •  Now do you understand why many wanted Mfume (5+ / 0-)

I like Ben, but he is not a particularly eleoquent or dynamic guy.  He's a brilliant policy wonk and consensus builder, but doesn't do so well in this type of media situation.  He's simply not aggressive. He's more of a nice, polite, quiet guy.

Mfume is passionate, knows the issues and could have taken on Steele's personility more effectively.  And he had a ground game, something I've not seen Cardin's campaign excel at.

Personally, I urge this community to throw the term "electability" out of our personal vocabularies.  Particularly if Maryland ends up with the champion of embryos Michael Steele as our Senator.

state, I would bet on Steele. Cardin probably wins, but more due to the national mood and Maryland's partisan makeup. When Cardin highlighted the difference between them on stem cells, he never mentioned how Michael Steele likened it to Mengele's Nazi experiments. When Tim Russert failed to understand the difference between parental consent and parental notification, Ben Cardin didn't set it straight.

Steele wasn't as sharp as I expected, but he was a lot better than Cardin was.
