I have a theory about Ken Salazar.  As a progressive Democrat, I am concerned about many of his votes ( like the recent S. 403  (Child Custody Protection Act )

He is in what he perceived to be a very conservative state and hopes to avoid be portrayed as a liberal.  I think his strategy is to

    1. vote Democratic where it will pass
    1. vote Democratic where his vote will make a difference
    1. vote Repugnant when it will pass regardless of how he votes unless it is really terrible.

In other words on issues like abortion rights, he doesn't cast symbolic votes.  One simple cure for that is to have a Democratic Majority that gives him good choices to make.  But making it a macho issue doesn't help.

He voted the right way on preserving habeus corpus which failed 48 51 I believe and the voted for the overall bill which passed 60 something plus.  That is correct on the important vote and incorrect on the symbolic vote
