I could see him losing the seat to a more mainstream Republican in a contested primary, IF one of the local R's chooses to run against him.  As displease as the party is with him, though, they might not want the specter of an intra-party fight on their hands, particularly after the spectacular results of the last one.  If it were to happen again, the voters just might get sick enough of it to stay in such numbers that a Dem might get elected.

Grant might have a better chance at him in a re-match, but I've been arguing that Grant should shoot for Larry Craig's Senate seat.  It's the top-tier race of 2008 in Idaho, and I'm not sure anybody else has the organization or support to even give Craig a run, or take adavantage of a possible open seat should Craig choose not to.

Larry stays in it. He'd be an excellent Senate candidate, as well. It'll be interesting to see what Craig does. Vasquez will have absolutely no qualms about pushing the gay issue against Craig. I think he as much announced that by declaring his candidacy even before this election. Craig might just want to avoid that whole discussion and retire. At the same time, they'd have to find a better replacement than Vasquez, so it'll depend on who else shows up for them. I think Risch is probably kicking himself now for not taking on Butch, and might be looking at possibilities.

At any rate, it'll be an interesting two years. You'll have to help me out on the Sali watch. I want to take him down. Two years is all he gets.
