  •  I don't think Ford had anything (6+ / 0-)

to do with Carville's nonsense.  I wish we could at least separate these issues.

    •  Ford should clear that up. (14+ / 0-)

Look, there was always a certain level of resentment against Ford by some people here for his positions on gays and abortion, among other things.

But Carville's dumbass comment certainly stirred the pot. I doubt very seriously if all of this anti-Ford crap would have come up had Carville not spouted his nonsense.

Harold Ford should say publicly that he has no interest in a job at the DNC.  If he wants to add that he thinks Dean's 50-state strategy is terrific, all the better.

He'll make Carville look like the jackass he is.

      •  I don't think Ford has to counter everything (9+ / 0-)

that is said about him. The man just campaigned for a year, getting three hours of sleep a night, and running himself ragged. I think that he deserves some sort of break.

That said, I think heading the DNC would be a bad politcal move for Ford. Not every nationally important issue plays the same as it does in Tennessee (see some other threads on the rec list right now), and Ford would lose any chance of state wide office here in Tennessee.

Dem's in Tennessee have to campaign as moderate to conservative, who are willing to buck party lines on occasion. This does not make for a good DNC leader.

        •  I think he does need to clarify (1+ / 0-)

Ford does need to publicly state that he is not behind this in order to have a future in the party.

I'm not a Ford hater by any means.  Like most people I find him likable and driven.  I just don't find him to be very Democratic. That said, he is not an opportunist.  Had he switched parties and run as a Republican I think he would have won easily.

Now I'm in a difficult position, this is twice in the last ten days when his name has been associated with a movement against the party.

The first was his pile-on on John Kerry which triggered Kos and many in this community to bail on him in the first place.  Maybe he felt he needed to do that or something in order to win his race, and maybe that calculation was correct.  Who knows, maybe he honestly thought Kerry's poor choice of words were an issue important enough to demand his condemnation.

However, we now have the second example, Carville floating his name to replace Dean at the DNC.  Now, he probably had nothing to do that, but if I were someone in a position to influence his future, I would strongly recommend that he distance himself from the remarks ASAP.

Piling on Kerry during the "joke" debacle, then not taking a public stand on what Carville said can hardly be excused away as it suggests a pattern of treacherous behavior that frankly will be difficult to tolerate.

Ford can squash these negative perceptions easily with a simple statement that makes it clear that he is not colluding in secret with Carville and others in an attempt to disenfranchise the State parties and the left wing of the party.

As I said, I like Harold Ford so I hope he chooses to put these whispers to rest with a simple and clear statement.

      •  Right on Bob . . . (0+ / 0-)

See two comments down.  I think a public statement is essential.
