  •  I'm humbled... (11+ / 0-)

...by your post. I think we can all learn something from listening to our soldiers rather than listening to politicians. While some of my family has served in the military, that was back in WWII and Vietnam, and now I feel too cut off from the military -- which is, I suppose, why I feel it absolutely essential to pay attention to people like you. I mean, we all need to do more than put bumper stickers on our cars, etc. So, my next contribution in IAVA will be in 3K's honor.

IAVA.org (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America)

The group strives to be as non-partisan as possible.  It is all about actually supporting the soldiers--both during and after their active service. Paul Rieckhoff, the executive director of IAVA, has been a real champion for the soldiers.  Here's their mission statement:

The mission of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is to ensure the enactment of policies that properly provide for our Troops & Veterans, keep our military strong, and guarantee our national security for the purpose of a stronger America. We uniquely empower Iraq & Afghanistan combat veterans to use their credibility and experiences to speak truth to power, shape public opinion, and place a priority on these issues.

We need to change the wind.
